We follow photographer Kors van Bennekom in the year he turns 75 and ends his working life. Not an easy period for Kors, a man who likes to stay in charge of things. He decides to have a selection of his archive digitalized, with the aid of the foundation Archief Kors van Bennekom, so he can have them safely stored in the vaults of the Dutch Photo Museum. But how do you arrive at a selection of 14,000 photos out of well over 700,000 negatives? How do you make that choice?

His son Joris helps him. Together they spend days perusing voluminous folders with contact sheets. Making the selection and everything it involves is incredibly laborious but more than that, it’s an emotionally charged project. Kors is ‘forced’ to go back to his days as a photographer for ‘De Waarheid’, his time as a theatre photographer with De Uitkrant and as a home photographer who doesn’t shy away from recording intimate moments.

Kors’ Choice is a portrait of Kors van Bennekom in which is beautiful photos are the protagonists. Photos that give a sense of how recent ‘the past’ is. The documentary was filmed handheld with a new RD ONE HD camera (in4K). Cameraman Robert Berger opted for a fixed 50mm lens, which imposes the same restrictions that Kors van Bennekom faced before.
